Genre Type(s) - This is the genre or genre types that will be searched for on the 'Movies' screen. If you select 'All', the search results will return movies with any genre type. If you select one or more genre types, the search results will only return movies of the selected genre type(s). You can access the items in the list by clicking on the up or down arrows. To select multiple genres, hold down the Ctrl key while you select each genre.

Each movie can have up to five genres defined for it. For example, Shrek has 5 genres defined: Adventure, Romance, Animation, Fantasy and Family. Some movies only have one. There are 19 genres pre defined by imdb and you can define your own additional genre on the Tools -> Options -> Miscellaneous screen.

Media Type(s) - This is the type or types of media that will be searched for on the 'Movies' screen. If you select 'All', the search results will return movies with any media type. If you select one or more types of media, the search results will only return movies of the selected media type(s). You can access the items in the list by clicking on the up or down arrows. To select multiple media types, hold down the Ctrl key while you select each media type.

When you add a single movie, you are required to select a media type for that movie. If the media type you want is not in the list, you can add it to the Media Types list from the Tools -> Options -> Miscellaneous screen.

Parental Ctrl PW - This is a 4 character alpha numeric field used to define the parental control password. Numerical values have the benefit of not requiring the keyboard for input on the search screens because along with a 4 character field, there are also 4 drop down menus, each containing the values of 0 - 9.

After the password has been entered and the options database updated, whenever the MPAA rating field on the Simple or Advanced search screens has the 'R' or 'NC-17' or 'All' (since All includes those ratings) option selected, the password prompt will be displayed.

Also, when the MPAA rating field on this screen changes to 'R' or 'NC-17' or 'All', the password prompt will be displayed.

To change the parental control password once one has been entered, you will be prompted to enter the old password first. You will also be prompted for the password if you try resetting the options file from the Tools -> Options -> Reset screen.

MPAA - This is the MPAA rating that will be searched for on the 'Movies' screen. If you select 'All', the search results will return movies with any MPAA rating. If you select any other option, the search results will only return movies of the selected rating(s).

Each movie that has had the IMDb information imported will have a rating certification given by the Motion Picture Association of America. If a rating was not provided when imported in, an "undefined" rating will be given to that movie.

If your parental control password is set and you select 'R', 'NC-17' or 'All' (since 'R' and 'NC-17' would be included), you will be prompted for your password.

User Rating - This is the user rating that will be searched for on the 'Movies' screen. If you select 'All', the search results will return movies with any user rating. If you select '10', the search results will only return movies where the user rating is a '10'. You cannot specifically search for user ratings less than 5.

Imdb.com keeps an overall average of their users' ratings for each movie on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the best.

Personal Rating - This is the personal rating that will be searched for on the 'Movies' screen. If you select 'All', the search results will return movies with any or no personal rating. If you select '10', the search results will only return movies where the personal rating is a '10'. You cannot specifically search for ratings less than 5.

The Personal Rating field is a rating from 1-10 that you have given to the movies you have seen. This field can be edited from either the Tools -> Edit -> Single screen or from the List or Summary views on any search screen.

Seen - The seen field for each movie is set to either seen or not seen. Not seen is the default. This field can be edited from either the Tools -> Edit -> Single screen or from the List or Summary views on any search screen. If you want the 'Movies' screen to display a movie whether you have seen it or not, select 'All'. If you want the 'Movies' screen to display a movie you have seen, select 'Seen'. To display a movie you haven't seen, select 'Not Seen'.

Year - Currently there are four options when searching on the year the movie was released. 'All' searches for any year. 'Current' means released this year. 'Recent' means released in the last 5 years and 'Classic' means released more than 20 years ago.

Language(s) - Search on the language the movie was recorded in. You can access the items in the list by clicking on the up or down arrows. If you want to select multiple languages to search for, hold down the Ctrl key while you select the language.

Country(s) - Search on the country the movie was produced in. You can access the items in the list by clicking on the up or down arrows. If you want to select multiple countries to search for, hold down the Ctrl key while you select the country.

Sort Order 1 - You can sort the search results by several different criteria in either ascending or descending order. Ascending order is from a-z and from 0-9. Descending order is from z-a and 9-0.

Sort Order 2 - You can sort on the sorted search results by several different criteria in either ascending or descending order. Ascending order is from a-z and from 0-9. Descending order is from z-a and 9-0. For example, you can sort by MPAA rating in the main sort and by Title Asc in the second sort field so all your G rated movies will be alphabetized and all your PG rated movies will be alphabetized and so on.
